What is no-code: Everything you need to know

For many of us, IT looks appealing but difficult at the same time. Compiling a working code seems out of reach for people outside the IT sector. But have you ever thought if it's possible to start a career in IT without the need of coding?

Things change and what was once possible only for people that have learned coding for years, is becoming open to everyone. The no-code development drives new digital transformation and it may be the reason you will soon build your own website or start a career in IT. And do that pretty fast.

No-code development enables programmers to build software, or some part of it, without writing a single line of code. It is possible by using a set of predefined components or blocks, carrying information for the computer what and how to do. The no-code developers stack up these components into logical order in a visual editor through drag-and-drop functionality. That means you don’t need to fully understand “computer language” or write commands to code. Compared to traditional programming, the no-code developer just simply says what to do, not how.

Why is no-code becoming so popular?

The switch from commands to predefined no-code components, and from text editing programs to visual editors opens up programming to millions of people. That makes no-code a booming technology due to a strong business-side incentive: No-code helps companies resolve the shortage of skilled developers.

Nowadays, the IT job market struggles to satisfy the demand for competent coders. And this is going to be worse as the number of businesses looking for programmers rises rapidly. But No-code development helps companies ease the pressure as it provides a gateway to IT for many people who would otherwise be left out.

Did you know?

According to Gartner LCAP Report 2021, by 2025, 70% of new applications developed by enterprises will use low-code or no-code technologies. That’s up from less than 25% in 2020. The trend also benefits anyone who finds themself on the job market. The future of IT and no-code development seems bright and they grow rapidly. So if you are choosing a career right now, the combination of IT and no-code will open many doors for you.

No-code and low-code: What is the difference

The no-code and low-code are often used interchangeably, but there are differences. Comparing the functionality, low-code sits just in the middle between traditional programming and no-code. Low-code platforms combine the capabilities of the two.

While you don’t write any commands in no-code, you can in low-code. And at the same time, while you don’t use a visual “drag-and-drop” editor in traditional programming, you can in low-code. That means low-code offers broader customization options than no-code, but also requires at least a basic understanding of coding to polish up and finalize the development process.

The benefits of no-code development

Serving as an IT gateway isn't the only driving point of no-code development. Through its capabilities, no-code platforms provide several additional benefits to programmers and companies:

  • Faster development: Compared to conventional coding methods, no-code solutions speed up the development process by 40-60% percent. As a result, developers get products to market faster, spend less time debugging, and automate repetitive tasks.
  • Better connection between business and technical teams: The technical gap between team members builds invincible friction in organizations. But no-code changes that. As everyone can learn and understand it quickly, no-code creates synergy between the business and development.
  • Flexibility in programming: No-code development makes it possible for coders to transition between various devices and interactions easier. The flexibility of multi-experience no-code platforms also extends to easier code maintenance or data management.

Examples of no-code development tools

The capabilities of individual platforms help organizations and users in various types of use cases. The application of no-code ranges from simpler customer centric use cases (like task automation) to more complex professional use (app building or integrations).

Some of the most popular no-code development tools include WordPress (web content management), Zapier (task automation) or Zendesk (customer service). For professional use, Salesforce is one of the leading platforms for CRM Specialists.

Thousands of company’s all around the world use Salesforce CRM and development tools, making it a great opportunity for starting a career in IT.

Will no-code replace traditional programming?

The short answer is no. The ultimate use case of no-code isn’t to substitute traditional programming. It’s more about completing it.

There will always be a need for hard-skilled and experienced programmers, so no-code isn’t a threat for them. But no-code will substitute a lot of the repetitive work and speed up development, allowing professional developers to focus on the complex tasks.

And at the same time, no-code opens a new way for people to start a career in IT. It is way easier and faster to start with no-code than with traditional programming.

What’s next?

Right now, hundreds of no-code platforms exist, offering a straightforward way to create new web, apps, or streamline business processes. The number will grow rapidly over the coming years.

With the need for developers outpacing supply, more apps will offer no-code tools for companies to be able to keep up in the fast-moving technology sector. And more businesses will move some part of development to no-code.

Therefore, IT positions in nocoding positions can guarantee a thriving career opportunities. If you are interested in IT but you feel like programming isn't necessarily for you, apply for our next CRM Specialist course now!

Szívesen foglalkoznál programozóként egy speciális területtel, amit egyelőre kevesen ismernek? Akkor a beágyazott szoftverfejlesztés pont neked való.

Kisgyermekes anyukák segíthetnek a programozóhiányon

Erre is figyelj, amikor programozó képzést választasz

Két részes cikkünkben összegyűjtjük, mire érdemes figyelni, amikor kiválasztod a neked leginkább megfelelő kurzust.
